The International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI) has become the first association of home inspectors to become accredited as a RESNET Home Energy Audit Provider. The goal is to have InterNACHI members conduct home energy surveys as an adjunct to the home inspection of a home being sold. This will give the buyer of an existing home very cost effective basic information on the energy performance of a home and suggest basic energy improvements that can be made to the home. If it appears that major work needs to be done, the home inspector will recommend that a comprehensive home energy rating be undertaken by a certified RESNET rater. InterNACHI will train and certify InterNACHI home inspector members to perform Home Energy Surveys. The purpose of a Home Energy Survey is to assess the general condition of the home with respect to energy performance and produce a home energy report.
