The State of New York has joined the ranks of states and municipalities that have adopted the 2015 IECC Energy Rating Index option when the State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council modified the State Energy Conservation Construction Code by adopting the 2015 Internal Energy Conservation Code (IECC) by reference. Included in the new code is Section R 406, the Energy Rating Index compliance option. There were no modifications to the Energy Rating Index score or efficiency back stop provisions of the 2015 IECC Energy Rating Index. This means that for New York, the Energy Rating Index scores are: IECC Climate Zone 2015 IECC Energy Rating Index Score 5 Not to exceed an Energy Rating Index score of 55 6 Not to exceed an Energy Rating Index score of 54 The modified New York energy code goes into effect on October 3, 2016. There are now a total of nine states that now have adopted the Energy Rating Index option as a compliance option to their state energy code. The states that have incorporated the Energy Rating Index into their energy code are: Alabama Illinois Maryland Michigan New Jersey New York Texas Utah Vermont In New York in 2015 there were 3,802 homes HERS® rated and issued a HERS® Index Score. The average HERS® Index Score of homes rated in the state was 54.
