RESNET Energy Smart Builder Rich Backus of Timber Ridge Craftsmen, Inc. reports that the Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors (RVAR) is including the HERS® Index Scores in its listing of homes for sale in the market. The RVAR covers the southwest portion of Virginia including the city of Roanoke. Rich Backus reports that he has worked with the RVAR in offering a series of education events for the association’s 1000+ members on educating them on the HERS® Index Score. The Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors MLS has joined MLS in the states of Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Vermont and Washington that allows for the inclusion of a HERS® Index Score in its property listings. Steve Baden, RESNET’s Executive Director commented that, “Including the HERS® Index Score in the MLS is a significant push to the mainstreaming of the HERS® Index Score in the housing market in Southwestern Illinois. REALTORS® rely on the MLS to guide potential homebuyers and appraisers use the service to locate comparable properties. Having this information will make it easier for builders to market their HERS® Index Scores and appraisers to calculate the market value of rated homes.”
