Energy code verification is fast becoming a business development opportunity for HERS® Raters. Increasingly state and municipal code jurisdictions are adopting the Energy Rating Index compliance option. Even if your code jurisdiction has not yet adopted the Energy Rating Index compliance option, there is also a greater opportunity for HERS® Raters to conduct compliance inspections as part of the performance compliance option to the code. Recent versions of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) require blower door and duct leakage testing. This is a natural fit for HERS® Raters. In order to boost their credibility to code officials for energy code performance verification, it is vital that HERS® Raters also become certified by the International Code Council (ICC) as energy code inspectors. In order to achieve this certification HERS® Raters must pass the ICC Certification Examination. Through its partnership with RESNET, ICC is offering a special discount package for HERS® Raters for becoming a member of the ICC. This package includes a number of ICC benefits including a voucher for the ICC Certification Examination. Becoming a member of ICC also provides the rating industry a voice in future code development. RESNET urges certified HERS® Raters to take advantage of this opportunity.
