On April 22, 2024, KB Home, one of the largest homebuilders in the U.S., released its 17th Annual Sustainability Report, the longest-running publication of its kind in the homebuilding industry. The highlights of the report are:

HERS® Ratings:

KB Home declared a goal that by 2025, its homes would receive a national average HERS Index score of 45 or lower. Each year, the builder publicly discloses the national average HERS Index score of its homes to demonstrate how the company is measuring up to its goals. The 2023 sustainability report discloses that KB Home’s 2023 national average HERS Index score was 46. This is 11 points below the 2023 average score of 57 for all U.S. HERS-rated homes. The company is well on its way to achieving its goal.

ENERGY STAR® Homes:

KB Home has built over 190,000 high-performance ENERGY STAR-certified homes since 2000, more than any other national homebuilder.

Water Efficiency:

KB Home constructed a record-high number of WaterSense® labeled homes in all its new communities across the southwestern U.S. to help support the region’s long-term water resilience. Since 2005, KB Home has built over 21,000 Water Smart and WaterSense-labeled homes.

Jeffrey Mezger, KB Home Chairman and Chief Executive Officer commented. “KB Home has a proud history of being a leader in sustainability. For over two decades, we have been building energy- and water-efficient homes and advancing innovation, while also making a positive impact by supporting the attainability and expansion of homeownership. We believe our approach creates a resilient business built to deliver long-term value for our customers, employees, partners, and stockholders.”
