Former President Jimmy Carter’s Lifetime of Love, Inspiration and Service

With the recent loss of President Jimmy Carter, RESNET® wishes to honor his legacy in service to America.

As President, Jimmy Carter dedicated himself to making our nation more energy secure and addressing the issue of global environmental pollution. He championed and led Congress to enact the nation’s first energy policy that created policies and research initiatives that laid the foundation for decades of progress in using energy more efficiently.

Most notable to the man was his leadership outside of the White House. As a private citizen he and his wife Rosslyn tirelessly championed affordable housing, democracy and world peace. His hands-on contribution to Habitat for Humanity was particularly notable.

RESNET is honoring President Carter’s legacy through its continuing collaboration with Habitat for Humanity International in making the homes they build not only affordable but also sustainable, energy efficient and more comfortable.

RESNET’s Executive Director Steve Baden commented, “I had the honor of working in Jimmy Carter’s 1976 presidential campaign as a field organizer. In his campaign appearance in Billings, Montana that I helped organize, he raised concern over the threat to the planet by atmospheric pollution. His focus on energy helped lead me on the path to the energy efficiency field. Above all, I remember him as being a decent human being with a strong commitment to his faith and nation.”
