Beazer Homes Releases 2023 Sustainability Report

Jul 23, 2024
On June 20, 2024, Beazer Homes, one of the largest homebuilders in the U.S., released its 2023 Sustainability Report.
The highlights of the report are:

HERS Index Ratings

Beazer reported that in 2023 the company had every one of their homes HERS Index rated and achieved an average HERS Index Score of 49. The average US HERS Index Score in 2023 was 57.

The company committed to the goal that by the end of 2025, the homes [they] start will generate a gross HERS Index Score of 45 or less. Beazer reported that the company reports their average HERS Index Scores as “gross” scores, setting a more rigorous standard by excluding any benefit of renewable energy technologies.

Zero Energy Ready Commitment

Beazer Homes reported that in 2020, they were the first U.S. national homebuilder to publicly commit to ensuring that by the end of 2025, every home they start will meet the requirements of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Zero Energy Ready Home program. Every home [the company] builds will also meet the standards of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR program and the requirements for Indoor airPLUS qualification.

Water Efficiency

The company reported that since 2010, they have installed EPA-certified WaterSense fixtures in 100% of their homes to provide homeowners with increased water efficiency.

Allan P. Merrill, Beazer Homes Chairman and Chief Executive Officer commented: Our dedication to sustainability is exemplified by our commitment that, by the end of 2025, every home we start will meet the standards of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Zero Energy Ready Home program. We set ambitious, time-bound goals like this because it provides clear direction for our team’s innovation and promotes a rigorous measurement process to track our progress. We take immense pride in subjecting our homes to third-party testing to generate a Home Energy Rating System (HERS®) Index Score, validating overall efficiency. This level of transparency not only sets a high bar in our industry, but it also empowers Beazer customers to make informed decisions and emphasizes the long-term benefits of energy-efficient homes.

Headquartered in Atlanta, Beazer Homes is one of the country’s largest homebuilders. The publicly traded company builds homes in Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
