Deadline for Submitting Comments is August 13, 2017 RESNET achieved the major objective of International Energy Conservation Code recognition of Standard ANSI/RESNET/ICC 301-2014 as an alternative code compliance path. It now needs to facilitate RESNET HERS® ratings, which are based on Standard 301, acceptance by the regulatory authorities that adopt and enforce the model codes. The RESNET HERS® Scope is generally compliant with the model building codes but needs tweaks to more closely align with the Scope of Standard 301 and with model building code definitions. Common language and constructs improve code enforcement officials’ comfort and acceptance of new standards. The proposed amendment draws the RESNET HERS® closer to the model building codes. The proposed amendment also revises the MINHERS® to provide an exception to the 3 story height limitation on official HERS® ratings that will allow certain 4 story dwellings and townhomes to obtain official ratings. The exception does not apply to Standard 301 so HERS® ratings for 4 story dwellings and townhomes it covers would not qualify for the IECC’s alternative compliance path. However, it does allow official HERS® ratings that can be used for other purposes for 4 story homes such as those with lofts or bonus areas that exceed the size limits established by the building codes, (e.g. lofts over a certain relative size must be considered another story). RESNET is submitting the proposed substantive language to the RESNET standard amendment public review and comment process. The proposed amended language is posted at Draft Addendum 27, Chapter 3, Proposed Scope- Four Story Dwellings and Townhouses Public comments will be accepted through August 13, 2017.
