The Inflation Reduction Act modified the federal tax credit for homeowners who make energy improvements on their homes. Along with extending the credit for ten years, the credit now provides a tax credit for homeowners to have energy audits conducted on their homes. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recognized RESNET® Raters as being able to conduct these energy audits. DOE has recognized the RESNET Certified Home Energy Rater program as “Energy Skilled” in the category of Home Energy Audit. The RESNET Certified Home Energy Rater program appears on the list of Qualified Certification Programs for home energy auditors that taxpayers can use to claim the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (Section 25C) for home energy audits, per criteria specified in Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Notice 2023-59. DOE encourages those whose training programs are recognized as Energy Skilled to apply the wordmark to program materials to signal to the market their leadership in skill development for an energy-efficient future. Only programs that have met the recognition requirements may use the official Energy Skilled wordmark. Download the wordmark here. Download the branding guidelines here.
