Proposed Addendum 60 Revises Chapter 2 of the MINHERS® to clarify the requirements for combustion safety field training. In the past, RESNET HERS® Rater training included two hands-on field ratings. This hands-on, field portion of full training activities has since been shifted to the Rating QA Providers to perform as they oversee Probationary HERS® Ratings. Rating QA Providers are also currently responsible for the hands-on CAZ training for RFIs. At this time, the only hands-on requirement during HERS® Rater training is two hours of in-field CAZ training. This places an undue burden on Trainees as well as Training Providers since the only hands-on requirement for HERS® Rater training requires trainees to potentially travel and/or purchase expensive equipment for a two-hour hands-on course. Since the QA Providers are tasked with RFI CAZ training and hands-on evaluation, they already have the equipment and field training and evaluation in place. It makes sense that they also incorporate HERS® Rater CAZ training and hands-on evaluation. This addendum is made to clarify HERS® Rater certification requirements with regards to the hands-on CAZ portion of those requirements.
