RESNET Adopts Procedures for Certifying Residential Energy Efficiency Tax Credits for New Homes
In July 2005 Congress passed the 2005 Energy Policy Act. The legislation provided for a tax credit to builders for building energy efficient homes. The law requires that the U.S. Department of Treasury after consultation with the U.S. Department of Energy to adopt procedures for verification of the tax credit. As part of the Tax Incentives Assistance Project (TIAP) RESNET led an effort to develop a set of recommendations for implementing the tax credit for new homes. The U.S. Department has recommended that the Department of Treasury adopt the implementation procedures that are published in the "Procedures for Certifying Residential Energy Efficiency Tax Credits for New Homes."
