Energy Star Homes Program Accreditation Procedures for Builder Option Package Providers
From 1999 through 2000, representatives of the home energy rating industry engaged in discussions with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) staff on the incorporation of Building Option Packages (BOPs) for the certification of ENERGY STAR Homes. RESNET facilitated the discussions. BOPs are a series of prescriptive standards developed by EPA that builders can use to demonstrate compliance to the ENERGY STAR Homes standard. On June 5, 2000, EPA formalized an agreement with the HERS® industry.
RESNET has developed and EPA has recognized a BOP accreditation procedure that is based upon the Mortgage Industry National Home Energy Rating Accreditation Standard.
